A special evening of remembrance

We look forward to gathering once again for our annual Tree of Lights service.

This year’s Tree of Lights event will take place on Sunday, 8th December 2024, at 6.30pm, outside Cransley Hospice Trust Fundraising Office on the St Mary’s Hospital site in Kettering.

For many, this time of year brings a deeper sense of loss as we remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. The Tree of Lights service offers a chance to come together, share in the comfort of community, and celebrate the lives of those we miss, while recognising the vital role hospice care plays in supporting families during their most difficult moments.

Lara’s story

This year, Lara bravely shared her personal experience of hospice care, as her father, Neil Dorothy, passed away at home in November 2023 after a brave four-year battle with cancer. Neil, a devoted family man and police officer who served our community for over 25 years, spent his final months under the compassionate care of Cransley Hospice.

Lara recalls how the hospice’s incredible support allowed her family to focus on creating precious memories. “The hospice made everything feel normal for us. My dad loved our dog Maddie, and she was allowed to visit him, bringing a sense of home into the hospice. It was so special.”

When Neil chose to spend his final days at home, the Hospice at Home team ensured he had everything he needed, including expert pain management. “It was such a relief for us to see him comfortable. We were able to focus on being with him, rather than his illness,” Lara shares. “Now is the time to help other families receive the care and support that we desperately needed, because every moment matters.”
