Sam Jeffcoat’s Story

Two ladies hugging and smiling.

Cransley Hospice… what a magical place with real life angels working tirelessly to help make our loved ones feel less pain and be comfortable.

Almost eight years ago, Sam Jeffcoat spent her final days at Cransley Hospice.

For her best friend, Becky Walton, those final days are filled with memories she will always treasure. Sam chose to bring the people closest to her together at Cransley, creating a final celebration surrounded by friendship, laughter, her favourite foods and her favourite drinks.

As Becky remembers, it was a fitting send-off for someone very special.

“I lost my very best friend, Sam Jeffcoat, 7 years 8 months ago. Her life ended at Cransley but not without a hell of a send off. Sam invited her closest people one Saturday afternoon, along with her favourite foods and favourite drinks and we had the last hoorah with this legend. The staff were super helpful with anything we hadn’t got ( like vodka !!!) and left us to celebrate Sam’s life. They commented on how much fun and laughter they heard from that room and honestly, it’s a night I’ll never forget and appreciate the fact I was there.

We all kissed and hugged Sam as we left and sure enough, she passed the next day with her and her beautiful daughter Lori and loris amazing dad. The ending was just as she wanted.

Cransley is really special to us all and we can’t thank you enough….”

For Becky and everyone who loved Sam, Cransley became the place where they could spend those precious final moments together, celebrating Sam’s life in a way that felt true to her.

Sam’s story is a beautiful reminder that hospice care is not just about someone’s final moments. It is about creating space for love, laughter, togetherness and memories that families and friends can carry with them forever.
