Hummingbird Bereavement Service

Bereavement support for patients, family and friends

We’re here for you, through grief and loss

The Hummingbird Service provides free counselling and bereavement support to patients, family and friends at any point from the diagnosis of a terminal illness, available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Northamptonshire.

Commissioned and funded by Cransley Hospice Trust and Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

Don’t go through it alone

The diagnosis of a terminal illness can be very distressing for both the patient and their family and friends. The uncertainty, along with the emotional and practical challenges can feel overwhelming.

Whilst these feelings are perfectly normal, many people find it helpful to talk to someone outside their family and friends about their thoughts, feelings, experiences and fears.

Who can access this service?

This support is available to patients, families, carers and loved ones. Both before and after the loss of a loved one, acknowledging the deep emotional and practical challenges that come with bereavement. It is available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Northamptonshire.

How will it be offered?

One-to-one counselling

With a qualified and appropriately registered counsellor, available in person, via video call, or over the telephone, depending on what feels most comfortable for the individual.

Support groups

Bringing together people who are also experiencing grief. These sessions offer connection, shared understanding, and guidance. Each group is facilitated by a registered counsellor and supported by trained volunteers, focusing on emotional wellbeing after loss.

Individual support

Delivered by trained counsellors, which may include emotional and practical support depending on personal circumstances and needs following a bereavement.
