Linda's Story
In loving memory of Linda Griffin: 09.12.62 – 01.07.19
After overcoming breast cancer in 2014, Linda Griffin rebuilt her life, but in early 2018 her family faced heartbreak again when an emergency hospital admission led to a terminal diagnosis. Her daughter Sam shares their experience of hospice care and how it helped make Linda’s final days as comfortable as possible.
Sam shares: “Mum remained so strong and positive and for the first few months following her diagnosis – she still really felt like my mum – but her health continued to deteriorate and by Christmas she was in a wheelchair.”
Linda’s Husband, Andy, was her full time carer, but as her condition worsened throughout 2019, the family began to receive support from Cransley Hospice, via the ‘Hospice at Home’ service.
Sam recalls: “Not many people can grant someone their dying wish, but Cransley really did that for my mum. My beloved mum passed away in her own home, with me and Dad by her side. She looked so peaceful after her death and the nurses were an incredible comfort to us, providing our family with all the support and guidance we needed.”
Over the years the family, have supported Cransley Hospice Trust in many different ways, and when they saw the ‘We Remember’ installation announced in 2025, they knew that they wanted to be part of it.
Sam shares: “Mum had left notes and letters for me and Dad, one read: ‘I am not afraid to die, I am just afraid of being forgotten.’ – and ‘We Remember’ would give us the chance to ensure that would never happen, not just in our hearts, but in a place we could visit together to remember all the good times we shared with Mum.
“Not only did we order a three-year plaque in Mum’s memory, but we also offered our support to the fundraising team, helping them to attach all of the memorial plaques to the installation at the Chester House Estate.
“We’re actually very lucky that we can see the installation from our home! So it’s just another very special reminder of my lovely Mum that I can enjoy every day.”
