Wendy is taking part in our SPARKLE WALK in memory of the best brother, Craig Newton.

Wendy Newton was one of the first supporters to sign up to our brand new Sparkle Walk on Saturday 21st September and has already raised over £175 for Cransley Hospice Trust!

Craig’s terminal diagnosis had been a huge shock to the family. He very quickly went from being told he had two years, to one – and then just to months. In the end it was only six weeks.

Wendy told us, “When I spent time with Craig, he would always say ‘no blubbing’ because once we started, it was always hard to hold it together!

Craig’s partner Jill, who cared for Craig along with his other Sister Julie said; “Craig had a big personality always trying to make everyone laugh. Even during his final days, he was upbeat (in front of everyone) but who knew what he felt when he was alone. He was brave from day one – still stubborn and stroppy, but with what he was going through who could blame him! He was one of the strongest people I know.”

The family rallied together to make Craig’s final weeks as happy as they could be, making precious final memories together. They went out for meals together when Craig felt able and enjoyed spending time with Craig’s Grandsons in the park.

Jill continues; “The care he received from Cransley from day one was 110%.

“Beth one of his nurses was absolutely wonderful. She used to sit on the floor and cream Craig’s leaking, swollen legs. Within a couple of days, they had healed, which just shows the proper care he received. They looked after us too, putting up beds if we needed to rest as we visited him.”

Wendy told us, “We can’t thank Cransley Hospice enough for their compassion and attention at such a sad time in our lives . It’s something you never think is going to happen to your family. The care and treatment from Cransley was second to none and it was a huge support to us all.

I signed up to take on the Sparkle Walk to help raise money so that Cransley can continue to give care and support to other families like ours who need them. Not only that but it’s fantastic motivation for me, as I will only be 16 weeks post full knee replacement surgery when I take on the challenge!

I’ll be walking with my Sister Julie and we hope that lots of others will join us at this exciting event, raising money for such an essential local cause! I know Craig will be with us in spirit on the night.
