Casey Garrett will be supporting ‘We Remember,’ honouring her beloved Mum, Janet.
Janet Garrett was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2018 and after a long road of treatments she sadly died in 2022.
Casey bravely recalls “Mum was desperate, she was in so much pain and no one was listening to her. She couldn’t speak to anyone on the phone and no one was replying to her messages. She had had enough of medical care. The system was failing her.
“At first we were nervous about getting Cransley involved but after the first visit from Amanda her nurse, Mum was a different person. For the first time since her diagnosis she told me that Amanda had seen ‘her’ as a person and not the ‘cancer’. She asked what she wanted, and listened to her, letting her vent her frustrations. Mum felt like Amanda knew her. She did what she said she was going to do. She arranged her pain relief and was never too busy, she always came back to her when she promised she would.
“Mum looked forward to her chats with Amanda. She gave her freedom. Freedom to know what the future held and the confidence to say what she wanted. If Mum had never met her, those last four months would have been very different.
“I can’t put into words the difference she made, not just for Mum but to my life because of what she did for Mum. She gave me moments with Mum that wouldn’t have been possible without her help”.
